The 220km “power super-highway” carries renewable energy generated from around 80 wind, hydro and solar projects in the north of Scotland, expected to have a combined installed capacity of over 1.46GW by the end of 2015.
The overhead line, which faced strong objections from campaigners who say it will destroy the landscape, was given the go-ahead by the Scottish government in January 2010.
