The state-backed group has finished laying chains, anchors and undersea cables for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ (MHI) 7MW machine — which features a unique digital-displacement hydraulic transmission (DDT) drive train — and expects to switch it on by the middle of September.

The turbine will go into full-scale operation by mid-December, the consortium — which includes the University of Tokyo, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding and Furukawa Electric — said in an online statement.
