Governor Ralph Northam signed an executive order establishing a goal for Virginia to have up to 2.5GW of offshore wind capacity “fully developed on an accelerated timeline” by 2026.
That places Virginia third among Atlantic states for offshore wind capacity goals behind New York (9GW) and New Jersey (3.5GW). Massachusetts officials have said they want to double the present 1.6GW
