Floating wind power developer Castle Wind has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Californian local utility Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP) to enter into a long-term 1GW power purchase agreement linked to the deep-water Castle Wind Offshore project in the US Pacific Ocean.

The MoU follows on from a community benefits agreement inked late last year between Castle, a joint venture between US pioneer Trident Winds and German utility EnBW, and the Morro Bay city council, which aims at advancing “a wide range of economic opportunities” in San Luis Obispo county and would allow the developer key access to a grid connection at the decommissioned Morro Bay gas-fired power plant.
