Wind OEM Siemens Gamesa has won a 453MW turbine order in India, marking its first success in the country with Saudi-based developer Alfanar.
Alfanar will take 206 of the OEM’s SG 2.2-122 wind turbines for two projects it is developing in Bhuj, Gujarat, where it is building a 600MW portfolio of wind farms won in Indian government auctions. The projects are due for completion in 2020.
Alfanar had earlier signed deals turbine deals with Senvion – the Germany-based OEM currently in self-administration insolvency – and local group Suzlon.
The Saudi group’s global development CEO Jamal Wadi said: “As one of the global players for developing renewable projects, we are happy to partner with Siemens Gamesa yet again, this time for part of our 600MW portfolio awarded under the SECI bids which we are developing in Bhuj, India.
“With more than 3GW of greenfield development in the pipeline for Alfanar in India, our main goal is to provide value and benefit to the community by partnering with reliable manufacturers.”
