A debut deal for its new EnVentus platform and bumper turbine orders in Brazil and the US helped global onshore wind number-one Vestas to an upbeat end to the financial second quarter.
A spate of deals revealed in the last few days of June took Vestas to an announced order total of 4.6GW for second quarter, well ahead of the 3.8GW total booked in the same quarter last year even before smaller unannounced orders are included. For the year to date, Vestas has 7.6GW of orders in the bag.
The first deal for an EnVentus turbine – the new, modular platform unveiled by the Danish OEM early this year – came from Finnish developer TuuliWatti, which will deploy the V162-5.6 MW model at its 151MW Simo Sarvisuo project.
The turbines used at the wind farm will use a bespoke tower solution to hit a hub height of 166 metres. The deal includes a 30-year service agreement at the site, which was a successful bidder in the first Finnish renewables auction held last year.
The EnVentus order came amid a string of end-of-quarter deals, with the Americas prominent among the largest.
Orders of 281MW and 197MW helped the Vestas V150 4.2MW smash through the 2GW order landmark just nine months after it was launched in the key South American wind market.
In the US, Vestas announced a spate of big deals including a 454MW monster order for its V120 2.2MW turbine.
