Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera said extra renewable power capacity will reduce electricity bills following the conclusion of the 753km Cardones-Polpaico transmission link between the country’s solar- and wind-rich north, and its central and southern regions.
“A thermal plant can be built anywhere [but] a solar plant needs to be built where there is sun and a wind plant needs to be built where the wind blows,” said Piñera during the inauguration of the line on Thursday.
