New York needs to get moving with potential solutions for additional transmission capacity if it wants to have a nation-leading 9GW of offshore wind capacity in place by 2035, the state’s top utility regulator told the REFF-Wall Street conference here.

“Something has to happen. Transmission in the water doesn’t exist and the transition onshore doesn’t exist,” said John Rhodes, chair of the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC), referring to offshore wind electricity delivery and integration to the land-based grid.
