The arrival of a first ‘market-ready’ floating substation – formally launched this week by French outfit Ideol and compatriot maritime contractor Atlantique Offshore Energy (AOE) – could be fundamental to firming up industry expectations of the sector’s build-out forecasts, which have teetered at the 15GW by 2030 mark for some time now counterweighted by best-case industrial calculus on one side and ultra-conservative analyst groups on the other.
