A quarter of US nuclear power capacity and 50% of coal generators have been losing money since 2012, signaling further retirements and replacement opportunities for the wind industry, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF).

“Half of the US coal capacity is waiting for someone else to close so they can make their money,” David Hastert, BNEF chief of wind research, told the AWEA Windpower conference here last week.
