The fast-growing global floating wind community gathered in Montpellier, France last week for what has quickly become one of the sector's annual highlights – the Recharge Floating Wind Power Player of the Year award reception.

The event, now in its second year, was held at the prestigious La Réserve Rimbaud restaurant on the eve of floating wind's biggest event, FOWT.

Senior industry figures attending the reception spanned the worlds of renewable and fossil energy, equipment providers, and representatives from finance and policy – all striking an upbeat note as floating wind power gathers momentum on three continents.

The more than 80 guests enjoyed the venue's Michelin-starred hospitality before hearing Recharge Editor-in-Chief Darius Snieckus announce industry pioneer Henrik Stiesdal as the 2019 winner of the award, which was sponsored by Ideol, Senvion, Seaway 7 and Le Béon.

Last year's winner was Hywind inventor Finn Gunnar Nielsen.

The Recharge Floating Wind Power Player of 2020 will be announced next April in Marseille, when FOWT returns to the French port city where its first five iterations were held. See photos of last year's awarded reception here.
