The early US push for large-scale offshore wind development has led to “conflicts” with other ocean users from fisheries to the military that are now the most serious challenges facing the industry there, said a senior federal official.

Emily Lindow – chief of staff at the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) – said America’s decision to quickly offer “very big wind farms with very big capacities” had “created a lot of friction with some of the constituents that are also offshore ocean users”.
