The outgoing Estonian government has halted a 600MW offshore project west of the Baltic Sea island of Saaremaa, citing national security concerns amid controversial reports denied by the developer that it supposedly had connections to Russian financing.

“It is not that the area is not good for wind power, in fact that area is in the Maritime Spatial Plan draft map that just was released this week and went to public consultation,” Tuuliki Kasonen, general manager of the Estonian Wind Power Association told Recharge.
