US onshore wind turbines installed in 2018 had a record average capacity rating of 2.43MW and the upward surge is set to continue into next decade, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

Last year’s 5% jump in the average capacity rating for the 3,123 utility-scale turbines commissioned was among the highest since 2000.

Meanwhile, technology has improved to the point where turbine availability to generate energy is usually above 98%.
