The pioneering 20.7MW Icebreaker Wind offshore project in Lake Erie reached a key milestone after the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) issued a construction permit for what would be the first freshwater wind farm in North America.
The move came more than two years of project review by USACE which has authority to administer and enforce provisions of the federal Rivers and Harbours Act (RHA) and the Clean Water Act.
