A rotor blade broke off a 100-metre-high Fuhrländer wind turbine and crashed into a nearby field in a wind farm near the town of Uelzen in northern Germany.

No one was hurt, local police said, adding that Saturday's incident occurred amid heavy winds, but for yet unknown reasons.

The affected Fuhrländer FL77 1.5MW turbine is part of the Brauel wind farm operated by renewables developer Energiekontor, which estimates the cost of damage from the broken turbine at up to €150,000 ($169,737).
