Orsted confirmed its Ocean Wind project will take part in the first offshore wind procurement round run by the US state of New Jersey.

Ocean Wind, which Denmark-based Orsted believes could eventually host up to 3GW of capacity off the state, filed a bid into New Jersey’s initial 1.1GW solicitation, which is expected to finalise contracts in 2019.

Orsted’s participation sets up the New Jersey round as a battle of the European energy giants, with Norway’s Equinor already having confirmed its own bid for its Boardwalk Wind project, part of its large development zone south of New York.
