Canada’s Algonquin Power & Utilities has purchased the 202MW Sugar Creek wind project in the US state of Illinois from developer Apex Clean Energy, and confirmed Vestas as the turbine supplier.

Algonquin’s unregulated Liberty Power unit is in the midst of a roughly 1GW renewables build-out in the US as the federal tax credits phases down, in addition to the 600MW of wind capacity the company’s Empire District utility plans to build in the Midwest.
