Offshore OEM MHI Vestas has set the seal on a deal to install a pair of its 9.5MW V164s at the Borssele 5 site off the Netherlands, as part of plans to develop next-generation foundation technologies.
The two-turbine project, for the Two Towers development consortium, will test a new ‘ slip joint’ concept to connect monopile and transition piece, designed with Van Oord for maintenance and installation-time cost savings, as well as novel “ecodesigns” for scour protection involving oyster reefs.
