The European Parliament has given the green light to an EU-wide renewables target of 32% by 2030.
The binding target for final energy consumption will be underpinned by three interim goals, and by National Energy and Climate Plans in which member states have to spell out how they will help meet it.
The target was agreed by the parliament, the European Commission and energy ministers in June.
