Avangrid is accelerating the timeline of its Kitty Hawk offshore wind project facing North Carolina, now aiming to sell the power into neighbouring Virginia in the light of that state’s recent push for 2GW offshore wind by 2028.

Avangrid, the US utility controlled by Iberdrola, has already filed an application with grid operator PJM to interconnect Kitty Hawk at Virginia Beach, looking to bring the power onshore in three tranches of 800MW, chief executive James Torgerson revealed this week in a conference call.
