The UK government is to provide £56m ($72m) of funding to a World Bank-backed initiative to develop battery storage technology to help enable the rapid deployment of renewables in South Africa.
Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed the UK’s contribution to the Clean Technology Fund, which provides finance for developing countries to scale up low-carbon technologies, during a trip to South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.
