Germany could still reach its 2020 climate target without endangering its power or heating supply by closing its oldest lignite power plants and expanding wind and solar energy as promised in a coalition agreement earlier this year, a joint study by Greenpeace and the Fraunhofer institute concludes.
The study “Energieszenario 2020” lists 14 lignite-fired power blocks with a combined capacity of 6.1GW
