Enel Green Power has closed finance for 700MW of new wind power capacity in South Africa, in another indication of the renewed momentum of the nation’s renewables industry.

Parent group Enel signed project finance deals for five wind farm projects totaling up to €950m ($1.1bn), out of a total €1.2bn total investment to build them.

The project portfolio, each of around 140MW, comprises the Nxuba, Oyster Bay, Garob, Karusa and Soetwater wind farms, with Enel the majority owner in conjunction with a local partner.
