Backers of the up to 4.5GW capacity wind and solar Sunzia Southwest Transmission project across the US states of Arizona and New Mexico – one of the largest for renewable energy in the Americas – believe it will obtain a key regulatory approval soon that is necessary for first half 2019 start of construction.

“We expect a decision and order from the Public Regulation Commission by mid-September,” SunZia spokesman Ian Calkins told Recharge, referring to the regulatory body in New Mexico that oversees the electric utility industry.
