Canada’s Northland Power has reached financial close on the deployment of two extra turbines at the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm in German waters to test innovative mono-bucket foundations under real-world conditions.

Recharge revealed last year how the two Universal Foundation suction buckets topped by 8.4MW MHI Vestas V164 turbines would get their first industrial-scale outings at Deutsche Bucht.

Dutch contractor Van Oord will be responsible for manufacturing and installing the two mono bucket foundations, in addition to its balance of plant contract for the wind farm.
