NKT has bagged a €145m ($169m) deal from developer Orsted to supply 190km of export cabling for the 1.4GW Hornsea 2 offshore wind project.

Denmark said the cable system, which excludes installation, will comprise three 220kV far-shore HVAC cables, linking the wind farm to its reactive power compensation platform for onward transmission towards land.

In its statement announcing the contract, NKT said: “Although the project profitability is below the existing order backlog due to the current unfavourable balance in the market for cable manufacturers, NKT maintains its leading position in this important renewable energy market.”
