A consortium made up of Siemens Gamesa, Universal Foundation (UF), Aalborg University, Fred Olsen Windcarrier and Offshoreenergy.dk has been awarded €3.8m ($4.4m) by Denmark’s ministry of energy, utilities and climate change to develop UF’s suction bucket foundation concept via a new trial installation campaign.

The group is aiming to demonstrate that UF’s Mono Bucket design – a cylindrical steel foundation installed into the seabed by use of suction pressure, gravity and smart installation techniques – can be industrialised to cut the cost of fabrication and installation of foundations by 40%, compared to traditional steel monopiles.
