Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT, and utilities Vattenfall and Innogy, have joined forces to study an offshore wind link between the Netherlands and the UK – known as WindConnector – as well as a wider hub in the middle of the North Sea connecting further countries.

Both ideas have been around for a while – but TenneT is now studying the options more concretely after the Dutch government recently decided to greatly expand the country’s already ambitious offshore wind programme to add 1GW per year from 2024 to 2030.
