The 100MW Assela wind farm in Ethiopia has been awarded $200m in financing to support construction from the Danish International Development Agency.

The giant project, which will be located near the Rift Valley, is expected to start construction later this year after Ethiopia and Denmark signed the loan agreement. Work is expected to be completed by 2025.

The wind farm is anticipated to produce 330,000 kWh per year-the equivalent of electric power supply to approximately 500,000 persons at a cost of less than € 0.09
