NextEra Energy chief executive Jim Robo has a few tart words for the emerging US offshore wind sector.

“It’s terrible energy policy and it’s really expensive,” Robo told analysts this week in discussing the renewables giant’s quarterly results.

Rather than wading into the US offshore market, NextEra – which in combination with its yieldco claims to be the world’s largest onshore wind operator, with 120 projects and nearly 13GW under ownership – will instead focus on its immense pipeline of onshore renewables opportunities.
