Swedish energy planners have outlined a support model for offshore grid connection costs, described by Orsted as offering the potential to make a “decisive difference” in spurring large-scale wind development off the country’s coasts.

State-funded support to offshore developers is one of two potential models presented by the Swedish Energy Agency (SEA) in a study commissioned by the government following Sweden’s 2016 national energy agreement, which saw a political consensus that grid connection costs incurred by developers should be removed in an effort to accelerate development of offshore wind.
