European solar capacity additions soared by 28% in 2017 to 8.61GW, driven by strong figures from Turkey and a recovery in German solar installations, adding to a record expansion in offshore and onshore wind last year.
Sunny Turkey grid-connected 1.79GW last year – a surge of 213% from 2016 – and for the first time became Europe’s leading solar market, according to a first estimate by SolarPower Europe.
