US wind developers safe-harbored 10GW of turbines last year at the 80% production tax credit, according to analyst MAKE – an unexpectedly robust performance, albeit down sharply from the 45GW qualified for the 100% PTC in 2016.
The 10GW showing is especially impressive considering the confusion and uncertainty that temporarily froze deal-making in the critical fourth quarter, as the Republican-led Congress debated – and ultimately passed – its sweeping package of tax cuts and reforms.
