Lebanon’s government has signed its first power purchase agreements (PPA) to buy electricity from a total of 200MW of wind planned by three Lebanese companies, reports from the country said.

The three qualified companies, Hawa Akkar, Lebanon Wind Power and Sustainable Akkar, signed an agreement with energy minister Cesar Abi Khalil, opening the door for investment in the projects.

Reuters newswire quoted Hawa Akkar chairman Albert Khoury as saying that Lebanon’s government will buy electricity from the wind farms for 20 years under a contract that can be extended.
