New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order Wednesday effecting a 3.5GW statewide offshore wind target for 2030, and directed regulators to quickly fill the gaps in an existing programme to make it possible for developers like Orsted and US Wind to secure off-take deals.
Murphy, a Democrat elected in late 2017, has asked the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to give teeth to the state’s existing offshore wind renewable energy credit (OREC) programme, and set in motion a regulatory process leading to an initial 1.1GW
