Siemens Gamesa has laid off 195 hourly and seven salaried workers at its rotor blade manufacturing plant in Fort Madison, Iowa, citing lower business volume this year in the US wind turbine market.

The move was effective immediately. The affected workers received two month’s pay as compensation. With the redundancies, the plant now staffs about 330 people.

“Business volume at this location through the 2018 fiscal year does not support the existing workforce level,” according to a company statement.
