Siemens Gamesa has secured the type certificate for its 8MW offshore wind turbine from DNV GL ahead of plan.
The SWT-8.0-154 is fully compliant with the international standard IEC-61400-22 and “ready for immediate market implementation”, said a DNV GL statement.
The turbine boosts rated power output by 14% from Siemens Gamesa’s previous 7MW variant, achieved thanks to the introduction of a new cooling system, controller and an updated generator.
