On the surface, the 28-page paper summing up the compromise between Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives of the CDU/CSU and the Social Democrats is very good news for the European renewables industry.

While lacking detail in many aspects, the paper talks of plans for additional tenders this year and next for a combined 8GW in onshore wind – which could compensate for a feared lull in German wind installations in 2019 and 2020 – plus a further, but not clearly defined contribution from offshore wind.
