In a paper marking the end of preliminary coalition talks, negotiators from Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative CDU/CSU and the Social Democrats (SPD) say they plan 4GW each in additional tenders in onshore wind and PV this year and next, as well as an extra “contribution” by offshore wind.

The additional tendering rounds are aiming at reducing German CO2 emissions by another eight to ten million tons in an effort to come closer to the country’s target of a 40% reduction in emissions by 2020 when compared to 1990 levels.
