Chile’s renewable energy installed capacity is expected to grow 20% in 2018 to 5.9GW in commercial operation, mostly through new wind and solar PV capacity additions.

The projection by the Chilean Renewable Energy Association (ACERA) came as it outlined goals for coming years including a 100% renewable energy target by 2040.

Conservative billionaire Sebastián Piñera, who was president of Chile from 2010 to 2014, will bring a pro-business agenda when he takes office again on 11 March.
