The UK government has released details of its plans to shut down all coal plants in the country by 2025, prompting environmental groups to warn that renewables – not gas – must be used to fill the gap.
The long-awaited implementation plan to phase out coal is part of the ruling Conservative party’s flagship green policies. Because of new pollution standards, several coal plant have been shut down across the UK, and the remaining are expected to stop operating by 2022.
