A new study by Germany's Fraunhofer IWES institute shows that offshore wind can deliver power almost all year round – more than estimated in previous research when fewer projects were operating – prompting calls for Germany to significantly increase its targets for the sector.

The study, Significance of offshore wind power for the Energiewende, was commissioned by Germany’s Offshore Wind Energy Foundation to research the long-term importance of wind at sea in a decarbonising world up to 2050.
