UK government-industry technology development body the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult has secured a £280,000 investment to upgrade the lightning impulse test capabilities in its high voltage (HV) laboratory.
The funding, from InnovateUK, will underwrite future development of HV cable systems and componentry, with a view to developing technology design to minimise export cable failure rates.
The lab’s new lightning impulse generator is used in testing of equipment rated up to 275kV for offshore renewable applications, as well as transmission and distribution markets.
