UMaine in talks with European investors for first US floating project

The developer behind Maine’s 12MW floating offshore wind project is in talks with multiple equity investors, including a number of major European companies, as it moves to secure $40m in US Department of Energy (DOE) funding and enter construction in 2019.

“There’s certainly quite a lot of interest from European players who would like to be the first-mover in floating offshore wind in the US,” says Habib Dagher, executive director of the University of Maine’s (UMaine) Advanced Structures and Composites Center, which leads the New England Aqua Ventus 1 project.
