Wind will soon surpass coal in nameplate generation capacity in the main Texas power grid after Luminant, the state’s largest electricity producer, announced it will close three large coal-fired plants in early 2018.
Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which serves about 90% of the state’s electric load, has at least 19GW of wind power capacity on its grid, slightly less than 19.2GW
