Encouraged by falling tariffs, India wants to ramp up its centrally-run programme of wind power procurement with as much as 4.5GW-worth of further auctions by the end of the current financial year, according to local reports.

The New Delhi government took the low winning bids seen in an 1GW auction earlier this month as a signal that the sector is capable of delivering low-cost power on an ongoing basis, and that India’s first national-level tender held in February was not a one-off, according to multiple news outlets quoting unnamed officials.
