First power converter modules (PCMs) for MHI Vestas’ supersize V164 offshore wind turbines have begun rolling off the assembly line at the OEM’s new manufacturing facility in the Danish port of Esbjerg.

The PCMs, which can handle both 33kV and 66kV voltage, are the last step in the power chain of the world’s biggest turbine, which is built around 80-metre “structural shell” blades and a three-stage medium-speed gearbox with permanent-magnet generator.
