Hydro-Québec, Canada’s largest state-owned electric utility and North America’s largest renewables generator through its fleet of hydro plants, has formally proposed exporting vast amounts of renewable power into New York.

Hydro-Québec argues that its hydro exports would “enable the deployment of intermittent sources of clean energy, such as wind or solar”, its huge reservoir capacity acting as a kind of green battery for New York as the state races to meet its 50% renewables target for 2030.
