MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has erected the first of 40 V164-8.0MW turbines to be installed at the 659MW Walney Extension offshore project in the Irish Sea, and power is now being exported to the UK’s national grid.

The wind farm about 19 kilometres from the Walney Island coast in Cumbria will also feature 47 Siemens Gamesa turbines and is slated to generate sufficient power to meet the electricity needs of more than half a million UK homes.
